TONOPAH — Football games at Tonopah Valley High School have been canceled following allegations of inappropriate behavior among players, according to the Saddle Mountain Unified School District.
The district’s superintendent said a “potentially serious incident” was reported on Friday, and local law enforcement was contacted immediately. As a result, the varsity football game scheduled for Friday and the junior varsity game set for Monday were both called off.
What the Sheriff’s Office Found
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office told ABC15 that deputies took a report describing players “dry humping” each other while the team was attending a football camp in Williams, Arizona. Investigators said interviews were conducted with those involved, but no one has chosen to press charges at this time.
It remains unclear whether the investigation will continue or if any further action will be taken against those involved, as officials have not released additional information about the nature of the incident.
District Response and Next Steps
Parents of students at Tonopah Valley High School received a letter from the school district on Monday addressing the situation. In a statement to ABC15, Superintendent Mike Winters said student safety and well-being remain the district’s highest priorities.
Winters declined to share further details about the school’s internal investigation. He did confirm, however, that faculty members have been placed on administrative leave while the matter is reviewed.
It is not yet known how many staff members are affected or when the investigation is expected to conclude. The district has not said whether football activities will resume this season or what conditions would need to be met before games are rescheduled.
