Authorities in Oakland County, Michigan, are asking the public for help locating a six-year-old boy who has been missing since early September, along with his mother, who is wanted on an active warrant.
Liam Malburg was supposed to be handed over to his father on September 3, but his mother, Marisa Calliea, never brought him for the scheduled drop-off. Since then, family members and law enforcement have been working to track down the pair, and concern has grown as the days have passed without contact.
Calliea, 30, stands about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs around 110 pounds. She was captured by a Flock camera in Northville on September 5, giving investigators their most recent lead on her location. She was believed to be driving a black GMC SUV, likely a 2015 to 2019 model.
According to information shared by the group Missing People In America, Calliea is not the custodial parent and is accused of taking Liam without permission.
The organization also noted that she has a bench warrant out for her arrest stemming from an incident in which she allegedly attacked someone and then fled the scene. Because of that history, authorities are treating her as potentially dangerous and are urging anyone who spots her or the boy not to approach directly.
Family Pleads for Community Help
Liam’s grandfather has taken to social media to rally support in the search. In a Facebook post, he described his grandson as a sweet and wonderful child and asked people to share information about the case as widely as possible. He and other relatives say they are desperate for any leads that could bring Liam home safely.
Photos circulating online show Liam as a young blonde boy, in one image dressed in a red hockey jersey and holding his helmet. Another photo shows him alongside his mother, who has blonde hair as well, smiling together before the disappearance.
Groups devoted to missing persons cases have added Liam’s information to searchable databases in hopes that increased visibility will lead to a tip. Cases involving a non-custodial parent can be especially difficult to resolve quickly, since the adult involved often has personal ties to the area and may be relying on people who know the family to avoid detection.
Investigators have not released additional details about a possible destination or motive, and it remains unclear whether Calliea has left the state or is still somewhere in the Northville area.
Anyone with information about Liam Malburg’s whereabouts or his mother’s location is urged to call 911 immediately. Tips can also be directed to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at 248-858-4951. Officials say even small details, like a possible sighting of the SUV or the pair together, could help move the investigation forward.
