A 14-year-old Georgia girl is recovering after she was beaten with a golf club during a fight near a bus stop in Newnan, according to reports. The incident resulted in the arrest of two teenage sisters and their mother, all of whom are facing aggravated assault charges.
Kiera Harps was taken to the hospital after the Monday afternoon confrontation. She suffered an injury to her head that required staples. Kiera was later released from the hospital, but her family says the incident has left them shaken and seeking justice.
According to Kiera’s mother, Syrite Harps, seeing her daughter injured was terrifying. She said she believed her daughter could have been seriously hurt or even killed after she was knocked to the ground and appeared unresponsive.
Police identified the suspects as 36-year-old Curtisia Anya Heath and her two daughters, ages 15 and 16. Authorities arrested all three following the incident. The two teenagers were taken to a regional youth detention facility, while their mother was taken to the Coweta County Jail.
Family Says Fight Started With Online Bullying
Kiera’s family says the confrontation followed alleged online bullying involving the two teenage girls. Kiera’s older sister, Jasmine Osirio, said the teenagers also ride Kiera’s school bus.
Jasmine said she went to the bus stop Monday afternoon hoping to speak with the family and resolve the situation. She said she attempted to talk with the mother, but the conversation did not go as planned before the confrontation became physical.
Cell phone video shared by the family appears to show the 16-year-old suspect striking Kiera with a golf club. Police say the golf club was given to the teenagers by their mother.
Jasmine also said she was struck during the fight. The video reportedly shows several people punching and pulling each other down as the confrontation continued.
Three Arrested as Family Seeks Justice
Following the incident, Kiera’s family has continued to speak publicly about what happened. Her mother says she wants those responsible to face consequences for the attack.
Kiera’s injuries required medical treatment, but she has now been released from the hospital. Her family is focusing on her recovery while also seeking accountability through the legal process.
A GoFundMe campaign has also been established to help Kiera’s family with expenses following the incident.
The three suspects now face aggravated assault charges in connection with the confrontation. The case remains an active legal matter, and the allegations against the suspects have not been proven in court.
