Montgomery County, MD: 22-Year-Old Colin Cypress Reported Missing, Police Ask for Tips

Colin Cypress missing

Detectives with the Montgomery County Department of Police are asking residents to help locate Colin Cypress, a 22-year-old man from Gaithersburg who has not been seen since early September.

The 5th District Investigations Division issued the appeal on September 4, urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

Last Seen in Clarksburg

According to police, Cypress was last seen around 5 p.m. on September 3 near the 14200 block of Jaegar Road in Clarksburg, Maryland. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds.

At the time he was last seen, Cypress was wearing a wine colored knit long-sleeve shirt, gray sweatpants, and blue Skechers sneakers. He is also known to wear red and black earphones, a detail investigators are hoping might help someone recall spotting him.

The case has since drawn attention beyond official channels. Missing People In America, a nonprofit that maintains what it calls the nation’s largest interactive missing persons database, shared the police bulletin on its Facebook page and added Cypress’s case to its own listings.

The organization said it verifies and posts only official missing person cases before sharing them publicly, and it encouraged followers to share the post widely under hashtags including #FindColinCypress and #Maryland.

Posts like these often play a meaningful role in missing persons cases, since a single share can reach someone who happened to see the person in question. Investigators frequently credit tips generated through social media with helping narrow down a location or timeline in the early days of a search, when information is freshest.

Montgomery County police have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Cypress’s disappearance, including whether foul play is suspected or whether family members have spoken publicly about his case. The department’s public information office, reachable through MCPD_PIO@montgomerycountymd.gov, is handling media inquiries related to the search.

How to Help

Anyone who saw Cypress on September 3 near Jaegar Road, or who has information about where he might be now, is asked to call the Montgomery County Police Department directly at 301-279-8000. Residents can also reach the county’s general information line, MC311, for guidance on where to direct tips.

As of this report, Cypress remains missing, and police have not indicated whether any new leads have emerged since the initial bulletin was issued.

Community members are encouraged to keep sharing his photo and description, since missing persons cases like this one often depend on public awareness to move forward. Anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, is urged to contact authorities right away.
