A 17-year-old has been identified as the student accused of threatening IDEA Elsa Academy, and jail records show he was already out on bond within hours of his arrest.
Teen Named After Wednesday Arrest
Elsa police arrested Christopher Alessandro Ayala on Wednesday, charging him with making a terroristic threat causing serious bodily injury. Hidalgo County jail records show that Ayala was released the same day of his arrest, with bond set at $10,000.
The case traces back to a report made Tuesday. An IDEA Elsa Academy teacher told police that Ayala had told other students he made a verbal threat about bringing a firearm to school, along with mentioning a list of individuals.
Additional students reportedly backed up the account, giving their own statements to investigating officers. Police went to Ayala’s home and took him into custody without any resistance or incident.
Before his identity was released, department officials stressed the seriousness of the case while asking the public for patience. The student was said to have threatened to bring a gun to school and named a list of targets, according to a Wednesday news release from the Elsa Police Department. The threat was first reported Tuesday evening, when an officer met with the teacher who raised the alarm.
Community Reaction Turns to Bond Amount
News that Ayala was free again the same day he was booked has sparked frustration among Elsa residents and parents connected to the school.

Elsa police did not release the student’s identity when the news release first went out, saying only that he faced a charge of terroristic threat causing serious bodily injury and remained in custody pending a bail hearing.

The Elsa Police Department said it takes all threats involving schools, students, faculty, and staff seriously, and encouraged anyone with knowledge of similar concerns to alert school officials or law enforcement right away.
This is not the first threat investigated at an IDEA campus in the area this year. A separate case involving threats made at an IDEA Academy in Edinburg also led to an arrest earlier this month, underscoring what several parents describe as a troubling pattern heading into the new school year.
As of this report, no additional charges have been announced against Ayala, and it remains unclear when he is expected to appear in court. Authorities have reminded the public that all suspects, including Ayala, are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
