A Booneville man has been arrested following an investigation into an allegation involving a four-year-old child, according to the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department.
Cristofer Clinton Carpenter, 39, of Booneville, was taken into custody on September 2 and charged with one count of molesting, described under Mississippi law as touching a child or mentally defective person for a lustful purpose.
The investigation began after authorities received a report concerning the child. According to the sheriff’s department, the child later participated in a forensic interview. Investigators said a disclosure was made during that interview, leading authorities to take additional steps in the case.
The sheriff’s department said affidavits were subsequently signed and an arrest warrant was issued for Carpenter.
Arrest Follows Investigation
Carpenter’s case is being handled by investigators with the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department. Investigator Torie Jumper is expected to present the case to the next Prentiss County Grand Jury.
Investigators Aaron Stolz and Deputy AJ Navarro also assisted with the investigation, according to the sheriff’s department.
Following his arrest, Carpenter appeared before Justice Court Judge Craig Bishop. His bond was set at $100,000. The bond was ordered to be either cash or a professional bond.
As part of the conditions associated with his release, Carpenter was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim or the victim’s family.
The sheriff’s department has not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the initial report or the child’s disclosure. Authorities have also not indicated that the allegations have been proven in court.
Case Expected Before Grand Jury
The investigation remains part of the legal process, with the case expected to move forward through the Prentiss County court system.
A grand jury presentation is expected to determine the next stage of the proceedings. The charge against Carpenter is an allegation, and a criminal charge does not establish guilt.
The arrest and investigation were publicly announced by the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Department. Local authorities have not provided additional details about the child or the family, which is consistent with the need to protect the identity of a minor involved in a criminal investigation.
